What is a Christian? Someone who goes to church and does good things to escape hell, who is enslaved to guilt, is boring, out of touch and slightly odd…. I suspect that these are the kind of answers that will spring to most people’s minds. These things however are far from what Christianity is actually all about.

Christianity, you may surprised to hear, is not about grovelling guiltily before an angry God but being made right with him, having all guilt removed and a certain hope of heaven. It’s not about doggedly following an archaic set of rules but about entering into a real living relationship with God through Jesus Christ, and although some of its adherents are slightly off-centre, being boring and weird is certainly not a requirement. The question is, is all of this really relevant and believable today?

This week, Southampton University Christian Union is putting on a week of talks and events where we’ll be exploring just how relevant Christianity really is in things we’re all searching for and giving answers to common questions raised against the Christian faith.
